Try feast for Newcastle West as Richmond fall apart in the second half

The Transfield Cup is motoring along nicely since the return to action and already Newcastle West and Thomond appear to be major contenders to lift the trophy. Following their 28 to 7 win last week-end over Abbeyfeale, Newcastle West moved closer to silverware this Sunday with an emphatic victory over Richmond.
Transfield Cup: Newcastle West 59, Richmond 5: At half time in this cup game in Newcastle West on Sunday, the outcome of the fixture was already decided with NCW leading 31-5. That score reflected the trend of the half but Richmond fell apart in the second 40 minutes, leaking a whopping 47 points. Brian O’Sullivan and Dave Foley had a try each for Newcastle West in that opening half with Shane Airey firing over a conversion. The tries flowed in the same direction after the break and there were further tries for NCW from Michael Bourke, Alex O’Halloran, John Walsh, Shane Airey, Donal O’Sullivan a try each and Cian Tierney helping himself to two well taken touchdowns late in the game. Shane Airey added six conversions to his first half tee kick. Brian Bennett scored Richmond’s try.
At the break Richmond appeared to be drained of energy reserves and the fitter, faster and more determined Newcastle blew them away in the second half.
